About the FIFA Confederations Cup
The 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup is the eighth renewal of the competition which originally started in 1992. It brings together the winners of various worldwide international tournaments, including the World Cup, European Championships and Copa America, into one 8-team system. This year the Confederations Cup is held in South Africa, who will also host the FIFA World Cup in 2010. The final will be played at Coca-Cola Park in Johannesburg on 28th June.
Confederations Cup betting for 2009 revolves heavily around 2006 World Cup winners Italy, Euro 2008 victors Spain and the defending champions Brazil. The Confederations Cup odds on these three sides are short as the other sides in the tournament are perceived to be much weaker – the likes of Iraq, New Zealand, Egypt and South Africa, for example. If two of the more ‘famous’ sides reach the final then expect Confederations Cup final betting to attract significant interest.
The only team competing in the 2009 Confederations Cup to have previously won the tournament are Brazil, who triumphed in 1997 and 2005. Brazil Confederations Cup betting for this year is sure to be noteworthy as the likes of Robinho, Kaka and Alexandre Pato are usually available at short odds to score in international matches. Other famous players competing are Fernando Torres, Cesc Fabregas and Xavi – who make the Spain Confederations Cup odds a short price – and Andrea Pirlo, Fabio Cannavaro and Gennaro Gattuso represent Italy.
