The US Masters was first played in 1934 under the name Augusta National Invitation Tournament until 1940, when it changed its name to the US Masters. Horton Smith was the first ever winner, shooting a four under par that year.

On winning the competition, the winner famously receives a green jacket, normally presented by the previous year's winner. Along with this they also receive their name engraved on the original trophy which remains at the Augusta Golf Club, a replica trophy depicting the historic clubhouse to keep, and a gold medallion featuring a view of the Founders Circle in front of the clubhouse.

The course is situated in breath-taking surroundings with many shrubs and tress scattered around the course with each hole actually mirroring this by being named after a plant - The 13th is called Azalea, while the 3rd is called Flowering Peach.

US Masters betting has been dominated in recent years by Tiger Woods, who has won the tournament 4 times from 1997 to 2005. The US Masters betting odds on Woods are, as a result, always short. However, the last 4 years have seen Woods' dominance ended, with Phil Mickelson, Zach Johnson, Trevor Immelman and Angel Cabrera all taking home the green jacket. The most successful player in US Masters history is Jack Nicklaus, who won 6 titles from 1963 to 1986.
