Phil Mickelson Betting Guide: About Phil Mickelson
Defending US Masters champion 'Lefty' burst upon the golfing world when he won the Northern Telecom Open on the US tour in 1991 while still a student at Arizona State University and is one of only four golfers (Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Ryan Moore are the others) to win the NCAA and US Amateur titles in the same year.
He finished a highly respectable 47th on his Masters debut 16 years ago, shooting a round of 69 and ended his first day at Augusta just two shots off the lead. However, it took him another eight rounds, until the first in 1995, to score in the 60s again.
Since 1998 he hasn't finished outside the top 12 in the US Masters and in 2006 he proved once again that the course held no fears for him as he recorded four round of par or better to defeat Tim Clark by two strokes for his second Green Jacket.
When he made an 18-foot birdie on the final hole for victory he joined Arnold Palmer, Sandy Lyle and Mark O'Meara as the only players to score a final birdie to win.
He wasted no time in getting off the mark for 2007 when capturing the AT&T Pro-am at Pebble Beach in February and this will be his 15th Masters appearance.
