Football Markets – Glossary
Win/Draw/Win – One of the most popular bets, to predict if the game will be won by the home team, away team or end in a draw within 90 minutes (3 possible outcomes).

Half-time/Full-time – To pick what the result (home/draw/away) will be at both half-time and then full-time (There are 9 possible outcomes to this bet).
Over/Under – To select whether the total goals scored in the game (90 mins) by both teams will be over or under a given benchmark (Normal benchmarks are 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 & 4.5).
To Qualify – Generally found in cup or knockout competitions, to select which team will win the tie and qualify for the next round/stage (Extra-time and Penalties can come into play)
Team to Score First – To pick which team will score the first goal of the match within 90 mins.
Double Chance – To have two out of the three outcomes in the win/draw/win market (There are only 3 outcomes for this bet) e.g. in a match you can bet on the game being a home win or a draw.
Total Goal Minutes – To add together all the minutes of each goal scored by both teams and bet on various ranges supplied by the bookmaker. (e.g. Arsenal win 2-0 and the goals were scored in the 11th and 77th minutes then the total for that game would be 88 goal minutes)
Half with Most Goals – To predict which half of the match will have the most goals scored (Goals scored by both teams count, could also be a draw with there being the same amount of goals in each half).
Handicap Betting – To bet on a team with a certain amount of goals head start or deficit. These bets are designed to even out matches where games can be one-sided. (e.g. Chelsea v Colchester, can bet on the game with Colchester having a 2-0 start and any additional goals they score in the match get added to the 2-0).
The draw is still available as even with a goal head start handicap bets can still end in a draw (e.g Liverpool v Man Utd if you bet on this match with a Man Utd 1 goal start and the game ends 1-0 to Liverpool the handicap bet is a draw)
Draw No Bet – To eliminate the draw out of the match, so there is now only two outcomes to the match (If the game does end in a draw all bets are refunded).
Time Of First Goal – To predict the time in minutes when the first goal from either team will be scored (There are normally 10 minute time ranges throughout to pick from throughout the game i.e. 0-10mins 11-20mins)
Team First Goalscorer – To select a player(s) that will score the first goal for their team. (Can also bet on no scorer)
Total Goals – To predict how many goals will be scored by both teams in the match within 90 mins. (Both teams goals are added together to get a total goals scored in the match, various ranges are offered by the bookmakers)
Half-time Correct Score - To predict what the exact score line is at half-time (45mins).
Winning Margin – To predict how many goals a team will win a match by (Liverpool to win by 1 goal) can also bet on the game ending a score draw. 90mins
Half-time Result – To select which team will be winning the match at half-time (45mins), can also bet on the draw.
To Score a Hat-trick – To select a player(s) who will score 3 goals (hat-trick) in a match within 90mins.
Total Corners – To predict how many corners will be in a match 90mins (Both teams corners are added together to give the total) Bookmakers will give various ranges to select from e.g. 0-9, 10-12, over 12.
Total Goals Odd/Even – To predict if the total goals scored by both teams will be an odd or even amount within 90mins (0-0 results are normally settled as an even amount)
Team to Keep Clean Sheet – To predict if a team will not concede any goals in a match.
Half with Most Goals – To predict which half of the match will have the most goals scored in it. (Both teams goals are added together to give the total) Also could be a draw with the same amount of goals being scored in each half.
To Win Both Halves – To predict if one team will actually win both halves of the match in 90 mins. e.g. 1st half – Chelsea 1-0, 2nd half - Chelsea 1-0 – Full time result is Chelsea 2-0.
Asian Handicap – With this bet you eliminate the possibility of the game ending in a draw. The underdog will generally be given a head start in the form of a goal handicap, and the match favourite will therefore also be handicapped by the same goal handicap.
The pre-determined goal handicap at the start of the match will be added to the real number of goals scored in the match in order to settle the bet.
E.g. Man Utd v Everton - Man Utd -0.5 goal handicap, Everton +0.5 goal handicap
This example gives Man Utd a half a goal deficit before the game starts, so if you bet on them they will need to win the game for your bet to win.
If you bet on Everton you will need them to either win the game or draw for your bet to be a winner.
