Prior to that performance, the son of Celtic Swing had endured another luckless passage when a never-nearer fourth over this course but in the belief that a step up in trip will aid his cause, the 4yo receives the vote to finally break his maiden tag.
15:55 - MOIQEN created a favourable impression when battling to a well-deserved victory in the Ballysax Stakes here last month and is strongly fancied to repeat the dose in the Group 2 Derrinstown Stud Stakes against similar opposition. The son of Red Ransom proved he handled soft ground when getting the better of subsequent scorer Hebridean in a titanic struggle so there’s every reason to feel even more upbeat about his chance to vindicate the form with conditions drying out in his favour.
16:25 - John Oxx has a whole plethora of talented fillies at his disposal so it has to be significant that he’s decided to pitch KATIYRA in at the deep end in the Group 3 1000 Guineas Trial on the back of just winning a maiden at two. The daughter of Peintre Celebre was mightily impressive when quickening right away from a useful field on that occasion last August and with her pedigree suggesting a step up in trip can only bring out nothing but improvement, she’s taken to signal her intent for the remainder of the season.
17:25 - All eyes will no doubt be on Haradasun has he makes his eagerly awaited debut for Ballydoyle in the Group 3 Amethyst Stakes but despite this Group 1 performer seemingly holding all the aces in taking a severe drop in grade, he may not get things all his own way with TIAN SHAN in the line up. Dermot Weld’s charge had the look of a horse still on the upgrade when handing out a comfortable beating to several useful opponents over this C&D last time out and providing his pilot Pat Smullen gets the fractions right up front again, the son of Barathea could be good enough to cause a mini shock.

14:35 - ARVIZ (NAP) was extremely unlucky not to capture a race against similar opposition last time out at Cork and he rates the day’s best bet to make amends in the opening maiden hurdle. Eoin Doyle’s inmate was travelling like a winner when disaster struck at the final flight and even though he gained his equilibrium to keep on bravely to hold onto second, the bird had flown. Previously to that unfortunate episode, the son of Verglas had chased home the useful Strolling Home at Tramore and a repeat of either two performances should easily be good enough for him to make his presence felt in a race large on quantity but short on quality.
15:35 - The centre piece of the afternoon comes in the shape of the Murphys Irish Stout Handicap Hurdle over 2m 1f where there are a whole host who appear to hold first rate credentials. The key to this year’s outcome could be last season’s renewal with winner and runner up locking horns once again. Twelve months ago DOLPHIN BAY just got the better of Jubilant Note and with the former arriving here in tip-top form having landed a handicap on the level at Leopardstown recently, the son of Dolphin Street receives the slight vote. A tight left-handed track on good ground clearly suits James Burns’ charge and with the race likely to be run at a frenetic pace, the 8yo makes plenty of each-way appeal.
