WHO’S WHO OF ‘I’M A CELEBRITY….’ 2008
Joe SWASH
A massive hit in Eastenders, the 26-year-old actor is bound to bag plenty of votes from female teenage fans of the show. One of the jungle flirts, Albert Square’s cheeky chappy has been installed as pre-show favourite.
Simon WEBBE
Webbe’s the second ex-member of boyband Blue to enter the jungle – and ought to improve upon Anthony Costa’s sixth place in 2005. Has a sizeable fan base already but needs to show more of a personality than his one-time band buddy.
Martin NAVRATILOVA
Arguably the greatest female tennis player of all time, the 52-year-old Czech-born star is clearly killing time before the Australian Open gets going. Carrying firewood will be a breeze – getting along with lazy jungle mates may prove more difficult.
Esther RANTZEN
ChildLine founder Rantzen follows in the footsteps of Jan Leeming, Jennie Bond and Janice Dickinson as the token ‘older woman’. Starred in experimental BBC2 reality show ‘Excuse My French’ alongside ‘Big’ Ron Atkinson – but will she be able to stand the jungle trials?
George TAKEI
After David Gest and Starsky and Hutch’s ‘Huggy Bear’, Star Trek’s Mr Sulu is the latest American star to try his luck. The oldest contestant at 71, he’s an unknown quantity who doesn’t know most of the other contestants. That may help him.
Carly ZUCKER
Chelsea and England star Joe Cole’s fiancee is officially a personal trainer, but she’s best known as a WAG who swanned around Germany during England’s 2006 World Cup campaign. Bound to be a big hit with the boys – but what about the girls?
Robert KILROY-SILK
The man fans will love to hate – but he might yet turn public opinion in his favour. Thrives on controversy, so expect him to be at the heart of many a heated battle around the jungle camp fire. Will relish the chance to top up his tan.
Dani BEHR
Ryan Giggs’ ex-fiancee has fallen off the radar in recent times but will prove popular with one-time lads’ mag readers. A tad dull in her heyday, the 37-year-old former Word presenter may be too nice to win.
Brian PADDICK
The former Met police chief and London mayoral candidate is used to the public eye. Openly gay, he’s played it straight in front of the TV cameras – so will be fascinating to see how he adapts to light entertainment.
Nicola McLEAN
Nicola who? Star of Five’s ‘Help I’ve Got A High Maintenance Wife!’ (yes, we missed it, too), she’s engaged rather than married to Peterborough United midfielder Tommy Williams. The hitherto unknown lower-league WAG will need to work hard early doors to win over the public. Rank outsider as the show starts.
David VAN DAY
Now 51 years-old, and although most of the younger jungle fans might not know the name a lot more will recognize him when he enters the show - mainly due to his part in 80's band Bucks Fizz. From Brighton, he's also been in another pop band called Dollar and stood as Conservative candidate for Brighton & Hove city council in 2007.
Su-Elise NASH
A member of girlband Mis-Teeq, she's entering the celebrity TV merry-go-round in the shadow of her band member Alesha Dixon, and will be hoping for similar success after Miss Dixon won Strictly Come Dancing in 2007.
