Australian Rules Football Betting

First played in 1859 in Melbourne, Australia, Aussie Rules Football has only one professional league in its home named country which also hosts the most prestigious competition The Australia Football League (AFL) culminating in the AFL Final, the highest attended club championship event in the world.

The sport is also played in over 30 countries at an amateur level around the world.

The AFL football season down under runs from March through to August (early winter in the southern Hemisphere) and culminates in the Grand Final at the MCG and is a major source of betting throughout the six month season both on a fixed odds basis and via exchange betting.

The 2010 final ended in a draw (between Collingwood and St Kilda), but in the subsequent replay Collingwood overwhelmed their rivals to run out winners by 108-52 in front of a crowd of 93,853.

Hawthorn (The Hawks) has the largest supporter base in the country and are the most successful club in the history of the AFL having won a Premiership title in each of the last five decades, last successful in the 2008 season.

Their most bitter rivals were Essendon (the Bombers) also based in Melbourne who they met in three successive grand finals in the mid 80's.
