Anglo Welsh Cup

The Anglo Welsh Cup, also known as the LV Cup, is an annual club Rugby competition featuring England’s twelve Aviva Premiership sides and the four Welsh regional sides.

Since 2005 the competition has taken on a new format, switching from a knockout competition to a tournament with four pools, containing three English and one Welsh side. To ensure all sides play two home and two away fixtures the format was again altered in 2009 with teams from Pool 1 playing teams from Pool 4 with Pool 2 and 3 sides taking on each other. The winners of each group then go on to the semi-finals with the final then taking place at a neutral venue.

The 2009-10 competition saw Northampton win the tournament for the first time beating Gloucester 30-24 at the Sixways Stadium and becoming the third English side to win the competition since the it was restructured back in 2005. Northampton’s win takes the number of English winners up to three with two Welsh sides having lifted the trophy to date.

2007 winners Leicester are favourites to lift the trophy in 2011 just ahead of Bath, with the Ospreys completing the list of the top three favourites and hoping to emulate their success of 2008.
