Paul Jacobs’ Best Bets
With no turf racing fixtures yet again on Friday the all-weather regime rules the roost with afternoon action at Southwell and Kempton Park and a twilight meeting at Wolverhampton. Paul Jacobs casts his eye over the sand action to bring you his best bets form the three racecourses.
Southwell Tips –
1.20 – Southwell – A low grade event, but one with several interesting runners set to line up and the market is likely to offer betting odds of at least 5/2 the field. Spacecraft found the seven furlongs here way too short last time out being shoved along very early on from an outside box and only making serious headway inside the last furlong and a half. Ahead of him that day was CALEDONIA PRINCE. He travelled well through the race until outpaced about three furlongs out and then picked up again from the two furlong pole to be beaten by the minimum margin.
BET NOW – CALEDONIA PRINCE
2.25 – Southwell – WHERE’S REILEY was hardly disgraced in a better race at Wolverhampton last time out and should return to winning ways here over a C&D which brings the best out of him. Punching is the other pace element in the race and although he would be better off in a handicap he could run above his mark, while Clear Passion also likes this C&D but is coming off a 167-day break.
BET NOW – WHERE’S REILEY
Kempton Park Tips –
4.25 – Kempton Park – National Hunt horses running on the flat is the set-up at the Sunbury-on-Thames track and this looks one of the more fascinating contests. TUSCAN GOLD has of course won around here before on the flat and although a bit disappointing over hurdles, the five-year-old would have to go close if on top form based on his flat rating. Woolfall Treasure stays all day, but may find something tapping him for toe even over this distance, while Clerk Choice has plenty of speed and could be a danger if on a going day.
BET NOW – TUSCAN GOLD
Wolverhampton Tips –
6.40 – Wolverhampton – ROCKY REBEL has been a revelation since being stepped up in distance with victories here (over 12f) and at Kempton Park. The step up in distance shouldn’t prove a problem and he still looks fairly well treated despite having to carry a five pound penalty. If he remains in the same sort of form he will prove hard to hold and probably has most to fear from Sam Lord, not disgraced last time out and sure to relish a fast run race at this trip.
BET NOW – ROCKEY REBEL
7.10 – Wolverhampton – Follow The Flag could never get a blow in over two miles last time out, but he is the form yardstick returning to a mile and a half in this Class Four handicap. But he may just have to give best to the unexposed four-year-old QUEEN OF DENMARK after she stayed on really strongly on her debut to win at Kempton. Mark Johnston’s horses have been in cracking form of late and the daughter of Kingmambo can land this contest before gunning for bigger prizes.
BET NOW – QUEEN OF DENMARK
