Newmarket Guineas Meeting

The two-day Newmarket Guineas meeting takes place on Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May on the famous Rowley Mile racecourse. The 2000 Guineas takes place on Saturday and the fillies' equivalent, the 1000 Guineas, is the focal point of Sunday's fixture.

The 2000 Guineas ante post market has been dominated throughout the winter by Henry Cecil's unbeaten colt Frankel. The Suffolk trainer has been very bullish about the quality of his star 3 year-old and we can expect him to go on to compete in the Epsom Derby later in the season. However, Andy Newton's 2000 Guineas trends article highlights the poor record of jollies in the race over the past 10 years. Irish raider Pathfork, who is also unbeaten, has been second favourite in the 2000 Guineas betting market since winning the Group 1 Boylesports.com Vincent O'Brien National in September.

Turning to the fillies and the 1000 Guineas odds are much more open. There have been lots of big-price winners since the turn of the century and it would be no surprise if that continued in the 2011 renewal. Godolphin's Meon Valley Stud Fillies' Mile winner White Moonstone is shading favouritism with most firms but you can get the low-down on her rivals in Andy Newton's 1000 Guineas trends article.
