As predicted the wooden spoon decider has come down to the final weekend with Scotland and Italy both pointless after four matches. Italy looked to be improving as they ran England close at Rome but in their other three matches they’ve merely been overrun, losing by 18, 32 and 21. In comparison Scotland have improved greatly and have been unfortunate not to pick up at least a win from their first four fixtures running England and France particularly close. Odds of 8/11 on an away win look fair but 13/10 on them leading at the break as well are worth chancing.

Wales are on the verge of the Grand Slam but they’ll have to play a lot better than they have so far in this tournament to see off a wounded France side. Wales are generally slow starters, conceding first in three of their four matches so far, so odds of 15/8 on France taking an early lead via a penalty look good. Additionally odds of 4/11 that a back scores the first try may look a short price but it looks to be a certainty. There have been a combined 24 tries in Wales and France matches in this year’s Six Nations and 22 of them have been scored by backs.

England v Ireland (Sat, 17:00, BBC1)

England played well against a below par French side a week ago but remember Ireland went to France and were unfortunate not to win themselves. The Irish saw off England last year and on paper they don’t deserve to be underdogs heading to Twickenham and so I fancy them to cap off St Patrick’s Day with a win.
