Newmarket leads the way with Ces and Dewhurst day and some fabulous races alongside Coral Sprint Trophy afternoon at York and meetings from Chepstow (Silver Trophy), Hexham and in the evening Chelmsford. Here are my best value bets of the day - PJ

Newmarket Tips -

3.10 - Newmarket - The Dewhurst Stakes always used to be the pivotal two-year-old race of the season as far back as I can remember, but that hasn't really been the case of late, what happened to last year's winner Belardo? Well of course he ran in the Group Three Challenge Stakes on Friday!

This year there seems be a real edge to the £500,000 renewal. This is all about form in the book, with the Aidan O'Brien trained Air Force Blue, against the blossoming potential of EMOTIONLESS.

The former has already landed the Phoenix and National Stakes, both at the Curragh, and on the latter occasion looked even better over the extra seventh furlong. His breeding suggests the drying ground at Newmarket will help him, but he looked suited by the dig in Ireland last time out.

The selection is very hard to evaluate as he hasn't really been asked a question in his two races to date merely being pushed out to victory, last time out beating the highly regarded Ibn Malik with consumate ease. I know that Charlie Hills, trained of the runner-up that day was mystified by how easily his charge was brushed aside, but it could just be that we have a potential superstar on out hands.

It was also interesting that William Buick, not normally outspoken, was glowing with praise for the son of Shamardal after winning the Champagne Stakes. On my private ratings I have him 3lbs below the Irish raider but it is quite obvious that he will improve a bundle again on only his third career start and I backed him for next years's 2,000 Guineas after he won his maiden at Newmarket.

York Tips -

1.45 - York - This looks set for PERSUN who is looking seriously progressive and with the Mick Channon stable on fire the daughter of Sir Percy has leading claims in this extended mile handicap.

A winner off 80 last time out at Epsom (looked better the further she went) I expect her to defy a 4lbs penalty at the main expense of the unexposed Emerald and the more interesting Arabian Illusion.

The last named, trained by Andrew Balding, is taking a step back in distance and was hugely impressive when handing out a three and a quarter length beating to Tidal Moon and company at Goodwood and although this is a decidely better race, the son of Mafki only has 4lbs extra to carry here.

BET NOW - PERSUN

3.25 - York - As usual a really tough renewal of this Coral Sprint Trophy and with the ground set to be on the dead side there are very few that you could be confident about having their optimum conditions here.

I am going to have a couple of each-way wagers with the likelihood of 20 set to line up. The pace seems to be down the centre to high and that will suit HIGHLAND ACCLAIM, unlucky not to have picked up a nice prize this season.

David O'Meara's charge just failed to pick up Caspian Prince in a similar race here in August when he raced off 95, (97 here). Forget his run in the Ayr Gold Cup last time out when he fell out of the stalls and wasn't perservered with on the drying ground.

It is also worth remembering that he was second in this race last year behind the smart Spinatrix off 100 and if he comes here in the same form then his chance is pretty obvious under Daniel Tudhope and 14/1 looks more than a fair enough offer from our laying friends.

Of the remainder, Aetna will love the ground and I wouldn't put anyone off backing her even off a rating of 102. However, my second stab goes in the direction of ECCLESTON who hasn't had many chance over this trip with give in the ground and a reproduction of his victory at Thirsk in similar conditions, albeit in a lesser race, would make him more than a bit-part player.

BET NOW - HIGHLAND ACCLAIM
